Electrical Components Leader Moves HQ to Michigan, Sparking Job Growth

LANSING, Mich. – Methode Electronics Inc., a Chicago-based manufacturer of electrical components, has officially announced the relocation of its headquarters to Southfield in Oakland County, Michigan. This strategic move involves a capital investment of $3.7 million and is projected to create a minimum of 90 new jobs, positioning the company for a promising future in Michigan.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed enthusiasm about the relocation, stating, “Today, we are investing in our auto industry by landing big projects and creating jobs for Michiganders. I’m grateful to Methode Electronics Inc. for making Michigan their new home. This announcement will create 90 new, good-paying jobs for Michiganders and build on our statewide momentum. Let’s keep working together to show that Michigan is the best place to build the future.”

Matt McCauley, Senior Vice President of Regional Development at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the economic benefits: “The Michigan Economic Development Corporation is proud to support investments that strengthen Michigan’s economy and reinforce our communities as destinations for business growth. We welcome Methode’s decision to establish its headquarters in Southfield, a testament to the strength of Michigan’s business environment and the talent found throughout our state. This investment will create new opportunities, support quality jobs, and contribute to the continued growth and vitality of the Southfield community.”

Methode Electronics aims to centralize its operations with a branded headquarters that highlights its legacy and future vision in key markets, including automotive, commercial vehicle, and industrial sectors. Jon DeGaynor, president and CEO of Methode, stated, “Our move to Southfield is a natural next step in Methode’s transformation. Being closer to our customers and the broader Detroit automotive network strengthens our ability to operate strategically, collaborate more effectively, and position the company for long-term success.”

The relocation is supported by a $900,000 performance-based grant from the Michigan Business Development Program, approved by the Michigan Strategic Fund. This initiative will offer new jobs with a starting wage of $29.41 per hour plus benefits, surpassing the Regional Median Wage by nearly $5.

Oakland County Executive David Coulter highlighted the significance of the move, saying, “Methode’s relocation of their headquarters to Southfield is a significant investment, which demonstrates the company’s confidence in our workforce. This strategic shift toward the automotive sector strengthens Oakland County’s thriving tech ecosystem and highlights our world-class technical talent.”

Founded in 1946 by William J. McGinley in Chicago, Methode has grown into a global company operating in 14 countries with over 6,500 employees worldwide. The move to Michigan is expected to increase employment in the state by 90 jobs by 2030, adding to the existing 59 Michigan-based employees. Methode’s contributions span various sectors, from automotive to aerospace, and involve high-quality manufacturing and advanced engineering roles.

Justin Robinson, President & CEO of Detroit Regional Partnership, praised the decision to relocate, stating, “Methode’s decision to relocate its headquarters to Southfield is another strong indication of the Detroit Region’s competitive strengths. Companies continue to choose our region because of our leadership in advanced manufacturing, exceptional talent, and collaborative approach to helping businesses grow. Southfield Mayor Kenson Siver expressed support for the investment, noting, “Southfield is proud to support Methode as it establishes its global headquarters in our city. This investment will bring quality jobs, strengthen our local and regional economy, and build on Southfield’s commitment to supporting business growth and innovation.”

State Rep. Samantha Steckloff (D-Farmington Hills) added, “I’m proud to support this grant for Methode Electronics as we welcome them and their new headquarters to Southfield. I am grateful for their investment in the community and look forward to seeing them and their employees thrive as they bring this essential industry to our area.”
