Flint City Hall Commemorates Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Tribute Wall
This October, Flint City Hall serves as a poignant venue where residents can gather to pay homage to those touched by breast cancer. With the establishment of the Flint Breast Cancer Tribute Wall, the city honors Breast Cancer Awareness Month by inviting the community to participate in this heartfelt initiative.
Throughout the month, community members are encouraged to visit City Hall to inscribe the names of loved ones, friends, or even themselves on the Tribute Wall. This gesture is a means to honor those who have succumbed to breast cancer, those who are currently battling the disease, and those who have emerged victorious.
The Tribute Wall stands as a testament to the personal stories behind each diagnosis, offering a space for recognition and solidarity. “Breast cancer touches far too many families, and behind every diagnosis is a person we love, a friend, a neighbor or someone in our community,” stated Mayor Sheldon Neeley. “We are opening the doors of City Hall so Flint residents can put those names where they belong — in a place of recognition, remembrance and hope. Whether you are honoring someone we have lost, supporting someone who is fighting or celebrating someone who has overcome breast cancer, we want you to know that their story matters and that they are part of the Flint family.”
Residents interested in participating can visit Flint City Hall at 1101 S. Saginaw St. during standard business hours to contribute to the Tribute Wall.
Encouraging Community Participation in Breast Cancer Awareness
Beyond the Tribute Wall, the city is also urging residents to join the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides of Flint breast cancer walk. Scheduled for October 10 at the Downtown Flint Development Authority (DDA) Flat Lot at 412 S. Saginaw St., the event promises a day of community engagement starting at 8:30 a.m., with the walk kicking off at 10 a.m. Participation is free, and individuals can register solo or as part of a team.
Making Strides serves as a platform for the community to rally together, raising awareness, celebrating survivors, and remembering those lost to breast cancer. It also supports the American Cancer Society’s mission to aid those affected by the illness. Further details and registration for the Making Strides of Flint event are available through the American Cancer Society.
