Nevada Faces Major Health and Welfare Cuts as Trump’s Budget Bill Takes Effect

The political landscape in Nevada is heating up as the state faces significant healthcare and welfare reductions, a year after the enactment of Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill.” Nevada State Democratic Party Chair, Daniele Monroe-Moreno, has voiced strong opposition to the bill, emphasizing the adverse effects on thousands of residents.

Monroe-Moreno criticized Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo for his support of the budget bill, which she claims has resulted in over 50,000 Nevadans losing their health insurance and another 70,000 losing food assistance. She stated, “While Joe Lombardo celebrated Donald Trump’s disastrous budget bill, over 50,000 Nevadans have been kicked off their health care and 70,000 have had their food assistance taken away — with more projected to lose coverage — all to fund tax breaks for billionaires.”

Impacts of the Budget Bill

Donald Trump’s budget, which Lombardo publicly supported, is expected to lead to over 100,000 Nevadans losing their health insurance as the state reallocates funds to provide tax cuts for billionaires. At present, more than 50,000 have already been affected.
The expiration of enhanced ACA tax credits by House Republicans is causing health insurance premiums to rise, with costs projected to increase by 34% to approximately $800 per month on average.
Older couples could see their annual health insurance premiums climb by as much as $18,100 due to the budget changes.
The budget bill threatens the operation of four hospitals across Nevada, potentially leading to closures or service reductions. Boulder City Hospital has already announced the elimination of nearly 100 jobs and essential services due to federal funding cuts, as reported by Fox 5 Vegas.
Nevada is at risk of losing up to $11 billion in healthcare funding over the coming decade.
