North Carolina Joint Reentry Council Holds Meeting to Enhance Offender Rehabilitation
The North Carolina Joint Reentry Council convenes every two months to strategize on improving rehabilitation and reentry for individuals transitioning back into society post-incarceration. This crucial assembly aims to streamline efforts across various sectors to support offenders in their reintegration journey.

Who: The meeting will feature council members, distinguished guests, and speakers, with an opportunity for public input.
Agenda Highlights
10 a.m. — Welcome and Introductions: The meeting will commence with opening remarks by Leslie Cooley Dismukes, NCDAC Secretary.
10:15 — Reentry 2030 Overview: George Pettigrew, NCDAC Senior Deputy Secretary of Rehabilitation and Reentry, will provide an overview of the Reentry 2030 initiative.
10:30 — Reentry 2030 Behavioral Health Panel
Moderator: The panel will be moderated by Kelly Crosbie, NCDHHS Director of the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Use Services.
Panelists: The panel will include insights from Mary Grillo, NCDAC Director of Social Work Services; Ashlee Barnes, NCDAC Behavioral Health Administrator; Theodore “Ted” Zarzar, Associate Professor of Psychiatry at UNC School of Medicine; Shawn Baker from the NC FIT Program, UNC School of Medicine; and Mary Steeley, a Lived Experience Advocate.
11:45 — Public Comments: Attendees will have the opportunity to voice their opinions and suggestions.
11:55 — Closing Remarks: The meeting will conclude with remarks from NCDAC Senior Deputy Secretary Pettigrew.
