Tallahassee, Fla., May 11, 2026 – The Florida Department of Education has proudly announced that Kyndall Brown, a distinguished agriculture teacher at Harmony Middle School, has been named a finalist for the prestigious 2027 Florida Teacher of the Year award. Brown stands among five exceptional educators selected from a pool of 74 district teachers of the year. The winner will be revealed in July.
Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas praised Brown’s commitment, stating, “Kyndall Brown represents the best of Florida’s educators, making a lasting impact through her dedication to students and her contributions to school success.”
Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Mark Shanoff, Superintendent of the School District of Osceola County, remarked, “Kyndall Brown exemplifies the highest standards of teaching excellence, innovation and community engagement.” He highlighted her role in transforming students’ learning experiences and strengthening community ties through agricultural education.
About Kyndall Brown
Kyndall Brown is renowned for her innovative approach as an agriculture teacher at Harmony Middle School. She crafted a comprehensive agriscience curriculum for grades 6-8, impacting over 200 students annually. Furthermore, she initiated the Fishing Club, fostering a sense of community and hands-on learning among students. Brown has also established valuable partnerships with local farms, offering students real-world agricultural insights. Her academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences from Mississippi State University and a Master of Business from Louisiana State University Shreveport.
The selection of the 2027 Florida Teacher of the Year finalists was from over 170,000 public school teachers. A committee comprising teachers, principals, parents, and business community members evaluated candidates based on teaching excellence, subject knowledge, professional learning, and community service. The winner will serve as the Christa McAuliffe Ambassador for Education, representing the Department of Education and teachers statewide for one year.
