Raven Industries Expands Innovation in Arizona with New Engineering Center
In a move to bolster its efforts in developing cutting-edge agricultural technology, Raven Industries, Inc. has inaugurated a new 15,000-square-foot engineering center in Scottsdale, Arizona. This strategic expansion aims to enhance the company’s capabilities in creating driverless and automated farming solutions.
The Scottsdale office, nestled within SkySong, is staffed by engineers specializing in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and computer vision. To facilitate rapid technology testing and implementation, the team benefits from proximity to test farms in Maricopa and Casa Grande. Raven plans to expand its team by hiring over 50 new employees in Arizona over the coming year.
“We are designing, developing, testing and deploying technology solutions that will impact the ability for farmers to feed our growing population amid labor shortages with greater efficiency,” stated Phil Corio, Senior Director of Engineering at Raven. “As we continued to consider our growing needs for AI and machine learning development, it became clear that we needed a specialized space to accomplish our goals — and the Phoenix metro area emerged as the ideal place to do this.”
Raven Industries, based in Sioux Falls, is at the forefront of creating autonomous vehicles capable of performing tasks such as tilling, spraying, and harvesting. Their innovations seamlessly integrate with existing farming equipment to streamline field operations. The choice of Arizona was influenced by the state’s rich talent pool and favorable conditions for autonomous vehicle testing.
Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, expressed enthusiasm for Raven’s new venture, stating, “We are excited Raven Industries has chosen Scottsdale for its tech-forward engineering center. Raven Industries’ new office furthers Arizona’s leadership as an automated vehicle innovation center while creating more jobs in the agritech industry and advancing new technologies.”
Scottsdale Mayor David Ortega also praised the development, noting that Raven’s expansion highlights successful economic growth, attracting transformative technologies and a skilled workforce to the city.
Raven Industries’ presence underscores Arizona’s reputation as a hub for autonomous driving and technology innovation. The state is already home to operations by major players like Waymo, Cruise, and Ford, along with testing facilities from automotive giants such as GM, Ford, and Toyota.
