BLM Evaluates Proposed Limestone Quarry Project in Humboldt County, NV

WINNEMUCCA, Nev. – In a bid to bolster domestic mineral production, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is scrutinizing a new proposal for a limestone quarry in Humboldt County, Nevada. Situated roughly 50 miles northwest of Winnemucca, the Western Quarry Limestone project seeks to occupy nearly 875 acres of public land administered by the BLM, with plans to disturb approximately 473 acres for mining activities.

With a focus on enhancing the nation’s mineral output, the project is poised to contribute significantly to the U.S. economy and employment landscape. It aligns with Executive Order 14241, which calls for “Immediate Measures to Increase American Mineral Production.” This executive directive stresses the importance of leveraging domestic resources to boost economic prosperity, ensure national security, and decrease reliance on international mineral supplies.

The proposed quarry project aims to meet the limestone demand from industries in Northern Nevada. If realized, it would provide employment for up to 16 full-time and 78 part-time workers during its operational phase.

To engage with the community and solicit feedback, the BLM plans to host an in-person public meeting. The details of this scoping meeting will be communicated at least 15 days in advance on the BLM National NEPA Register project page. Participants requiring reasonable accommodations are encouraged to reach out to the BLM.

Furthermore, a Notice of Intent is scheduled to be published in the Federal Register on September 28, 2026, marking the commencement of a 30-day public scoping period. The public can obtain additional information and submit comments through the “Participate Now” feature on the BLM National NEPA Register. This comment period will conclude on October 28, 2026.
