Michigan Announces $90.6M Investment, 127 Jobs in Business Expansion

In a significant push for economic growth, Michigan is witnessing an infusion of over $90.6 million in capital investments across Ingham, Kent, and Oakland Counties. Governor Gretchen Whitmer recently announced the expansion of three companies, which promises to create at least 127 new jobs, reinforcing Michigan’s stronghold in the life sciences, agriculture, and mobility sectors.

Governor Whitmer commented, “Michigan is on the move and open for business, competing for and winning big projects in next-generation industries like data analytics and manufacturing.” The governor highlighted the creation of new jobs and the state’s commitment to leading the future of manufacturing.

Niowave’s Expansion in Lansing: A Leap Forward in Cancer Treatment

Niowave is set to enhance its Lansing operations with a new facility in Clinton County, focusing on the production of Actinium 225 (Ac-225). This isotope is critical for targeted cancer therapies. The facility, spanning 80,000 square feet, will house six new linear accelerators, expanding Niowave’s capacity significantly.

Supported by a $695,000 Michigan Business Development Program (MBDP) grant, this project involves over $85 million in capital investment and will create at least 73 jobs, with starting wages of $30.29 per hour. “Niowave was founded in Michigan more than 20 years ago,” said Mike Zamiara, CEO of Niowave, expressing excitement about the growth and partnership with the MEDC.

Niowave’s strategic location near the Capital Region International Airport facilitates swift delivery of products to hospitals. The company’s expansion is also supported by a $2.1 million grant from the Michigan Department of Transportation for site road enhancements.

Prism Controls: Doubling Up in Vergennes Township

With a focus on modernizing agricultural operations, Prism Controls Inc. is doubling its facility size in Vergennes Township, Kent County. The expansion will require a $3.8 million investment and generate 28 new jobs, aided by a $210,000 MBDP grant.

Eric Hansen, President of Prism Controls, emphasized the company’s legacy and growth in Michigan, which dates back to 1980. This expansion marks a significant milestone in the company’s journey, leveraging Michigan’s robust manufacturing and technology sectors.

Geotab: Pioneering Mobility in Madison Heights

Geotab, a leader in fleet telematics, has established a new facility in Madison Heights. This facility will facilitate automotive reverse engineering, embedded systems development, and advanced software development, furthering Geotab’s mission in vehicle data and sustainable mobility.

With a capital investment of approximately $1.8 million, the new establishment will create 26 jobs, supported by a $130,000 MBDP grant. Neil Cawse, CEO of Geotab, expressed pride in tapping into Michigan’s engineering talent to drive innovation in sustainable transportation.

Geotab’s new site in Madison Heights, coupled with its strategic U.S. headquarters in Atlanta, positions the company to leverage the automotive engineering talent available in metro Detroit.

The investment and job commitments are formalized in a performance-based project agreement. Funds will be distributed as milestones are achieved, with provisions for amendment or cancellation if commitments are unmet. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation will provide an annual public report on the agreements’ status.
