Michigan Set for Economic Boost with New Business Expansions
In a significant move to enhance Michigan’s standing in the advanced manufacturing and automotive sectors, three companies have announced major expansion plans. These expansions, announced by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, will bring over $64.8 million in capital investment and create at least 243 new jobs across St. Clair, Ogemaw, and Oscoda Counties.
Governor Whitmer expressed enthusiasm for the developments, stating, “Michigan is on the move and open for business, competing for and winning big projects up and down the auto manufacturing supply chain.”
U.S. Farathane Expands in Port Huron
U.S. Farathane, LLC, a Tier 1 automotive supplier based in Auburn Hills, plans to extend its Michigan footprint by establishing a new facility in Port Huron. The facility, strategically located for optimal transport access, will cover approximately 230,000 square feet and is expected to create 115 jobs. Supported by a $747,500 Michigan Business Development Program grant, the project represents a $21,998,000 capital investment.
David Wiskel, U.S. Farathane’s President, stated, “We appreciate the continued support of the State, the MEDC, the Detroit Regional Partnership, and our local community leaders. We can’t wait to advance this important new project.”
Wausau Supply Co. Grows in West Branch
Wausau Supply Co., a prominent name in building supplies, is set to establish a new 260,000 square-foot facility in West Branch. This expansion will serve as a hub for door manufacturing, creating 92 jobs and involving a capital investment of at least $41 million. The project is backed by a $575,000 MBDP grant.
Brian Miller, Wausau Supply’s President, remarked, “Every new job in West Branch is also a new ownership stake in our future. This facility lets us expand our manufacturing capabilities to meet real demand from our customers, and we couldn’t ask for a better place to do it.”
Cooper Standard’s New Facility in Comins Township
Global automotive supplier Cooper Standard is set to construct a 15,500 square-foot facility in Comins Township. This project aims to streamline operations by consolidating multiple business lines, resulting in a $1.9 million investment and 36 new jobs. A $200,000 MBDP grant supports this initiative.
Chris Couch, President of Fluid Handling Systems at Cooper Standard, highlighted the project’s significance, saying, “This project strengthens our ability to serve customers, supports our long-standing presence in Michigan, and creates meaningful opportunities for the local community.”
