BLM Ely District Offers Online Christmas Tree-Cutting Permits

Get Your Christmas Tree Permit in Ely, Nevada: A Simple Guide

ELY, Nev. – As the holiday season approaches, residents of Nevada can easily acquire permits to cut their own Christmas trees thanks to the Bureau of Land Management Ely District. Each permit costs $5, and individuals can purchase up to 10 permits.

Permits are conveniently available online around the clock through the BLM Special Forest Products Online Permit Sales Pilot Program, starting October 1. To secure your permit, visit https://forestproducts.blm.gov/. Navigate to Nevada, choose the Ely District, and select the Christmas Tree Permit option. Fill out the application form, provide your credit or debit card details, and within minutes, you can print your permit. Additional resources, including stipulations and a map, can also be downloaded. Please note, all permit sales are final, and no refunds will be issued.

Tree cutting is permitted on BLM-administered lands, with exceptions for areas designated as wilderness or wilderness study areas. The Ely District Resource Management Plan further restricts tree harvesting in specific areas of critical environmental concern, such as Blue Mass, Lower Meadow Valley Wash, Mount Irish, Shoshone Ponds, and Swamp Cedar. Only pinion-pine, juniper, and white fir trees are allowed to be harvested, while all other tree species are protected.

Though online purchasing is recommended, permits can also be acquired in person at the Caliente Field Office, located at 1400 South Front Street, Caliente, NV 89008. For further details, visit https://forestproducts.blm.gov/, or contact the Ely District Office at 775-289-1800 or the Caliente Field Office at 775-251-5250.
