In a vibrant display of artistry and education, Flint’s children were treated to a unique opportunity to glimpse behind the scenes of the circus world. On Wednesday, Mayor Sheldon Neeley hosted the UniverSoul Circus at Flint Southwestern Classical Academy, where around 400 local students experienced the thrill of circus life firsthand.
The interactive Circus Camp brought together children from four schools to engage directly with UniverSoul performers. This immersive two-hour event allowed students not only to observe but also to participate in learning circus skills, including stilt walking, juggling, and acrobatics. The camp concluded with a live performance featuring the troupe’s signature acts and “Fresh the Clownsss.”
Mayor Neeley emphasized, “Our young people deserve opportunities to experience the excitement, creativity and wonder that events like UniverSoul Circus bring.” He articulated that the event was about more than just entertainment; it was a chance to ignite imagination, enhance self-assurance, and introduce children to new talents and cultural experiences.
The Circus Camp serves an educational purpose as well, aiming to inspire students and provide them with exposure to the diverse array of skills and cultures within UniverSoul’s international team. The initiative is part of a broader effort to bring enriching experiences beyond traditional classroom settings.
