Corey O’Connor: A Leader Committed to Pittsburgh’s Growth and Transparency

Corey O’Connor, the 62nd mayor of Pittsburgh, is recognized for his dedication to serving the community and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. Known for his commitment to transparency and efficiency, Mayor O’Connor prioritizes the needs of all Pittsburghers, particularly the most vulnerable.

Since beginning his public service career in 2012, O’Connor has made a significant impact on the city. Initially representing Pittsburgh City Council District 5, he was instrumental in passing the City of Pittsburgh’s Paid Sick Days Act and advocating for affordable housing. He also played a crucial role in developing sensible gun safety laws.

On July 10, 2022, O’Connor was sworn in as the Allegheny County controller, a position he was appointed to by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and confirmed by the State Senate. In November 2023, he was elected to his first full term, receiving the most votes among county-wide candidates. His tenure in this role has been marked by efforts to increase government transparency and accessibility. This includes launching new platforms for public access to government data, auditing major departments, and proposing benchmarks for environmental and climate initiatives.

Before entering politics, Corey O’Connor worked as a community development representative for U.S. Congressman Mike Doyle. His educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Duquesne University, and he is an alumnus of Central Catholic High School. A former varsity golf coach, he guided the team to several state and WPIAL championships.

O’Connor’s legacy is deeply connected to his family, as he is the youngest child of the late Pittsburgh Mayor Bob O’Connor and Judy O’Connor. He resides in the city with his wife, Katie, and their children, Molly and Emmett, cherishing his role as a father above all else.
