Western Boulevard Night Closures Scheduled for Bridge Construction
Motorists in Raleigh should prepare for nighttime disruptions as contractors working for the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) plan to close a section of Western Boulevard. The closures are necessary to facilitate the safe installation of girders on the new Interstate 440 East bridge over Western Boulevard. These plans are contingent on favorable weather conditions.
The specific section of Western Boulevard affected lies between Blue Ridge and Chaney roads. This area will be closed to traffic from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning. On both Tuesday and Thursday nights, the boulevard will be completely closed in both directions. However, on Wednesday and Friday nights, only the westbound lanes will be affected.
Drivers heading westbound on Western Boulevard will need to follow a detour. They are advised to take I-440 East, exit at Hillsborough Street, and then rejoin I-440 West to return to Western Boulevard. For more details, you can view the detour map here. Further incident updates are available on the NCDOT website.
