Additionally, the pre-paid balance required to open a new account has been halved from $20 to $10, and account balance evaluations will now occur monthly instead of quarterly.
Introducing the NC Only Account
The NC Only account is tailored for drivers using North Carolina’s toll facilities, such as the Triangle Expressway, Monroe Expressway, and I-77 Express Lanes. This account type eliminates the need for a transponder by using the vehicle’s license plate for toll payment. With the NC Only account, users receive the same 35% discount on tolls as those with traditional accounts.
This option is particularly advantageous for families or small businesses with fewer than ten vehicles, intending to use it solely within North Carolina. For those planning to drive in 18 other states where NC Quick Pass is accepted or needing to set HOV status on the I-77 Express Lanes, a standard NC Quick Pass account requiring a transponder is recommended.

Adjusted Pre-paid Balance Requirements
