Livingston County Prepares for 22nd Annual Shop with a Cop Event

In Livingston County, anticipation builds as the community gears up for the 22nd annual Shop with a Cop event. This cherished tradition brings law enforcement officers and children together, fostering connections while spreading holiday cheer through a special day of shopping.

Programs like Shop with a Cop aim to nurture positive interactions between children and local law enforcement, offering families a touch of holiday joy. The initiative is made possible thanks to the unwavering support of local organizations and community partners dedicated to Livingston County’s children and families.

Local law enforcement, with the backing of Walmart, Cleary University, the Livingston County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), and The Well Church, are organizing this year’s event for selected children within the community.

Eligibility for Nomination

Children residing in Livingston County, aged 5 through 14, who will be at least 5 years old by December 1, 2026, are eligible for nomination if they:

  • Are considered at risk or have faced challenging life circumstances;
  • Have encountered negative experiences with the legal system; or
  • Have families engaged with local human service agencies.

The Livingston County DHHS oversees the selection process and is currently accepting nominations.

Nominating a Child

Community members who know a child who could benefit from this program are encouraged to submit a nomination. Nominations must be submitted using the official nomination form.

When completing the form:

  • Submit one form per family, listing all age-eligible children.
  • Provide a comprehensive statement detailing the child’s qualification for the program, as space is limited, and this information may be crucial during selection.
  • A legal parent or guardian must sign the required release.
  • Include contact numbers for urgent notifications.

Submitting a nomination does not ensure selection. A committee will convene in November to choose participants, with notifications sent by mail to parents or guardians of those selected. Only children chosen for the program will be able to participate.

Deadline for Nominations

Nominations must be submitted by October 30, 2026.
