Dallas is on a mission to transform its urban landscape with the eighth iteration of the Branch Out Dallas initiative. This program offers residents the chance to beautify their properties with a free tree, while also contributing to a larger vision of a sustainable city.
Branch Out Dallas, now in its eighth year, provides participants with a complimentary 5-gallon tree. This initiative is a part of the city’s strategy to enhance its urban tree canopy. Trees play a crucial role in reducing stormwater runoff, lowering temperatures, improving air quality, and alleviating the heat island effect.
Interested Dallas residents can register online until September 30, 2026, or until supplies are exhausted. Registration is available at dallas.gov/branchoutdallas. Eligibility requires that registrants reside within Dallas city limits and provide a valid Dallas Water Utilities account number during the sign-up process.
During the registration process, participants can select from a variety of tree species and choose their preferred pick-up location. Trees must be collected on Dallas Arbor Day, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon. Please note that delivery services are not available, so participants must retrieve their trees from their chosen locations.
The program is coordinated by Dallas Water Utilities with assistance from the city’s Forestry team, alongside community partners and volunteers who help distribute the trees. By engaging in Branch Out Dallas, residents are investing in the future of their communities. The trees will provide shade, manage stormwater, and enhance the urban environment across Dallas.
