BLM Plans Rehabilitation for Bug and Stallion Fire-Affected Lands

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is taking swift action to address the aftermath of the 2026 Bug and Stallion fires that have scorched lands across Washoe County, Nevada, as well as Lassen and Sierra Counties in California. These fires have left a trail of destruction, prompting the BLM to initiate urgent measures to stabilize and rehabilitate the affected areas.

In response to the devastation, the BLM has laid out a comprehensive plan for emergency stabilization and burned area rehabilitation (ES&R) on the impacted public lands. The primary aim of this project is to accelerate the restoration of natural and cultural resources that have been compromised by the wildfires.

The planned actions encompass a variety of rehabilitation efforts. These include the seeding of grasses, shrubs, and forbs that are beneficial to the ecosystem, hand planting of sagebrush along with other shrub species, and rangeland improvement. Furthermore, the project will address infrastructure repair needs, apply herbicide treatments to combat noxious weeds and invasive annual grasses, and ensure the protection of cultural resources.
