Success Academy to Launch Its First Florida Campus in Miami

Miami, Fla.– In a move that could significantly alter the educational landscape for certain communities, Governor Ron DeSantis has announced the opening of Success Academy’s first charter school in Miami. This initiative is part of Florida’s Schools of Hope program, aimed at providing high-quality educational options to families in areas with consistently underperforming schools.

Governor Ron DeSantis expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Florida leads the nation in educational freedom, and today we are adding to that promise. With Success Academy opening in Miami, students will now have access to one of the highest-performing education models in the country. Florida’s families deserve world-class education, and we will continue to make it available to every child no matter their zip code.”

Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas also commented on the development, “Under Governor DeSantis’ leadership, parents are empowered to choose the educational path that best suits their children’s unique needs. Success Academy offers families another high-quality option, backed by a nationally recognized track record of academic excellence and school improvement.”

The Schools of Hope initiative, launched in 2017, was created to bridge the educational gap for students in perpetually low-performing schools. The program supports Hope Operators, nonprofit charter networks known for their success in providing quality education to low-income families, aiming to eliminate achievement disparities.

To support this mission, Governor DeSantis has introduced various statutes and initiatives, including:

  • Implementation of House Bill 1 in 2023, making Florida the first state to offer universal school choice to all families, regardless of income, with over 1.8 million students, accounting for more than half of Florida’s K-12 population, now involved in a school choice option.
  • The Personalized Education Program, initiated through House Bill 1, grants parents flexible funding to tailor learning needs, with over 150,000 students currently partaking in home education.
  • Enactment of Senate Bill 248, allowing homeschool students to engage in activities like playing on local high school sports teams or joining the band, without impacting their homeschool status.
