Four Margate Middle School students hospitalized after consuming edibles

Incident at Margate Middle School Raises Concerns Over Edible Consumption

In a concerning incident at Margate Middle School, four students were taken to the hospital on Wednesday after consuming what appeared to be edibles. Authorities suspect these edibles were THC/CBD-infused gummies. Out of a total of eight students involved, three were released into their parents’ care and are reportedly in stable condition.

A spokesperson for the Margate Police Department stated, “The investigation is ongoing,” and confirmed that all parents of the seven students involved have been notified. The school, located at 500 NW 65th Ave., serves students from sixth to eighth grade.

Broward County Schools addressed the situation with a statement: “The school’s administration confirmed several students were treated and four students were transported for medical evaluation today after consuming candy or food believed to have been laced with an unknown substance. Out of an abundance of caution, emergency services were contacted immediately and students received appropriate care.”

The school district is actively collaborating with authorities to pinpoint the source of the edibles and bolster student safety measures. They also urged parents to discuss the importance of not sharing or consuming food items that do not originate from home and to encourage their children to report any suspicious items to a trusted adult.
