Nevada Fire Prevention Order Enforced by BLM Starting May 2026

RENO, Nev. — Starting Thursday, May 1, 2026, Nevada will see the implementation of a new Fire Prevention Order as announced by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). This directive aims to curb fire-related incidents on BLM-managed lands, which constitute roughly 63% of the state, spanning nearly 48 million acres.

Activities Prohibited Under the Fire Prevention Order

  • Possessing, discharging, or using fireworks, pyrotechnic, or incendiary devices.
  • Possessing, discharging, or igniting explosives or explosive materials, including binary explosive targets.
  • Discharging a firearm using tracer, incendiary, or steel-component ammunition.
  • Operating or using any internal or external combustion engine without a properly installed, maintained, and effective spark arresting device.

It’s crucial to acknowledge that additional restrictions may be enforced by individual BLM Nevada districts. Furthermore, fire restrictions on public lands can differ depending on the managing agency.

Violations of these restrictions, if done knowingly and willfully, may result in fines and liability for any fire suppression or rehabilitation costs incurred due to such actions.

To ensure compliance, individuals are advised to verify specific restrictions for the areas they plan to visit.
