Miami Felon Sentenced to 240 Months for Firearm Offenses

In a recent ruling, a Miami man was sentenced to 240 months in federal prison for charges related to firearm possession and attempts to shoot an individual. The sentencing followed a series of incidents involving Olivier Ricardy Alexandre, a 28-year-old former track and field athlete with prior felony convictions.

On January 3, U.S. District Court Judge David S. Leibowitz handed down the 240-month sentence to Alexandre, which included a 105-month upward variance. Alexandre had previously confessed to the charges of possessing ammunition and a firearm as a convicted felon.

Alexandre’s legal troubles escalated in early 2023, following a probation sentence in Warren County, Kentucky, for marijuana trafficking. On March 13, 2023, Alexandre confronted a victim outside their Miami-Dade County home, discharging 18 rounds without reloading. The Miami-Dade Police Department’s Forensic Services Division connected the shell casings to three other shootings, including a previous attack on the same victim on October 9, 2022.

Shortly after, on March 21, 2023, Alexandre was under surveillance by Plantation Police Department officers. While they were preparing to execute a search warrant at his residence, Alexandre emerged with a handgun equipped with an extended drum magazine, threatening a tow truck driver. This incident led to his immediate arrest.

The announcement of Alexandre’s sentencing was made by U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe for the Southern District of Florida, alongside officials from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), and the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD).

The investigation was a collaborative effort involving ATF, USPIS, MDPD, the Plantation Police Department, and the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Hayden P. O’Byrne led the prosecution of the case.

This case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, which aims to reduce gun violence and improve community safety through coordinated law enforcement and community partnerships. For more information about this initiative, visit Justice.gov/PSN.
