Florida’s New Budget Prioritizes Environmental Initiatives

The recent state budget signed by Governor Ron DeSantis marks a significant commitment to environmental protection in Florida. With substantial allocations aimed at preserving natural resources, the Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget underscores the state’s dedication to sustainability and resilience.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Investment in the Environment

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has expressed its approval of the environmental investments included in the new budget. DEP Secretary Alexis A. Lambert emphasized the administration’s ongoing dedication to safeguarding Florida’s ecosystems, stating, “Since taking office, Governor DeSantis has signed seven state budgets that consistently prioritize environmental protection, demonstrating his administration’s long-term commitment to safeguarding Florida’s natural resources.”

Funding for Everglades and Water Quality

Key among the initiatives is a $1.4 billion allocation designed to further the restoration efforts of America’s Everglades and to improve water quality across the state. Since 2019, nearly $8 billion has been invested in protecting Florida’s waterways, achieving results efficiently and cost-effectively.

Infrastructure and Resilience Projects

The budget also allocates more than $200 million for projects enhancing coastal and inland resilience, $50 million for alternative water supply development, and over $50 million for beach nourishment. These funds aim to strengthen critical infrastructure and ensure sustainable water resources for Florida’s growing population.
