Wisconsin Rescue Team Heads to Texas Amid Flood Crisis
In response to severe flooding that has affected numerous areas in Texas, a specialized team from Wisconsin, known as Wisconsin Task Force 1 (WI-TF1), is en route to assist with rescue operations. This team, part of the state’s Urban Search and Rescue Task Force, is poised to bring critical support to the affected communities.
Greg Engle, Administrator of Wisconsin Emergency Management, emphasized the importance of interstate cooperation during such emergencies, stating, “Wisconsin Task Force 1 brings together individuals from across the state with specialized training and capabilities to support not only our own communities, but also communities experiencing emergencies throughout the country.” He added, “We are a more resilient nation when states support one another during emergencies. Our hearts go out to the families and communities affected by this terrible disaster.”
Departing from the Regional All-Climate Training (REACT) Center at Volk Field in Camp Douglas, the team includes five skilled members and three trained K9s. They are equipped with a utility all-terrain vehicle and essential medical supplies to enhance the effectiveness of their search efforts.
The squad is set to reach Texas by Wednesday, following a request from the Texas Division of Emergency Management through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, which facilitates mutual aid across states. Initially, WI-TF1’s deployment is planned for 14 days, though this timeline may be adjusted based on the evolving situation.
WI-TF1’s personnel hail from various fire departments across Wisconsin, including Green Bay, Janesville, and Menomonie, alongside limited-term employees from the REACT Center. This deployment highlights the collaborative spirit and readiness of states to assist each other in times of crisis.
An integral part of Wisconsin Emergency Management, WI-TF1 operates under the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs. The task force’s base is the REACT Center, which plays a crucial role in preparing team members for such missions.
