Wisconsin State Emergency Operations Center Manages Response to March Winter Storm
As Wisconsin grapples with the aftermath of a significant winter storm that started on March 14, the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) is diligently coordinating the state’s response. Initially elevated to Level 3 on March 15 to manage the storm’s impact, the SEOC will reduce its status to Level 4 by 7 p.m. on March 16 as conditions improve. However, they will continue to monitor and respond to any emerging resource needs.
In collaboration with county and tribal emergency managers, the SEOC is addressing reports of hazardous driving conditions, power outages, and assistance required for stranded motorists, with help from the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Several state and nongovernmental organizations have joined forces with the SEOC to provide necessary resources and support. These partners include:
- Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs
- Wisconsin Department of Transportation
- Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
- Wisconsin Department of Health Services
- American Red Cross
Following the March 15 update, no further requests for emergency assistance have been reported, suggesting that local resources are currently sufficient to manage the storm’s effects.
Those traveling should consult official sources for the latest information, including 511wi.gov, social media channels of WisDOT and the Wisconsin State Patrol, and official WisDOT travel advisories and news releases.
As conditions clear, residents are urged to exercise caution when venturing outdoors. Be aware of your surroundings to avoid hazards such as ice, downed power lines, and debris. It’s important to avoid overexertion, heed your physical limits, take breaks, and seek assistance if necessary.
Individuals affected by the storm should stay informed through weather alerts, adhere to local officials’ guidance, and keep their emergency and safety plans ready.
