Severe Weather Response Efforts in Wisconsin Continue Amid Flooding Concerns
Madison, Wis. – As Wisconsin faces severe storms and flooding, the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) is actively engaged in managing the response. The center is closely monitoring the situation and stands prepared to address any new resource needs that may arise from the anticipated weather on Friday.
Regular communication is being maintained between the SEOC and county and tribal emergency managers, with reports indicating significant storm damage throughout the state. This includes home evacuations, sandbagging activities in multiple communities, and road closures due to flooding. The main areas of concern for flooding are the watersheds of the Wisconsin, Rock, Wolf, and Menominee rivers.
The SEOC has so far received 16 requests for resources to aid in response operations. These requests encompass:
- Deployment of a swift water rescue team for potential water rescue operations.
- Provision of barricades and signage for road closures.
- Supply of sandbags.
Currently operating at Level 2, the SEOC is coordinating with a variety of state and nongovernmental partners. The collaboration involves:
- Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs.
- Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
- Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
- Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
- Salvation Army.
- American Red Cross.
Residents impacted by the severe weather are advised to remain vigilant by monitoring weather alerts, adhering to local officials’ instructions, and keeping their personal emergency plans up to date.
With more storms predicted for Friday, the SEOC emphasizes the importance of having multiple sources for receiving weather alerts and staying informed through local authorities.
