Wisconsin SEOC Elevates Response to Severe Storms and Flooding

Wisconsin Deals with Severe Weather, State Emergency Operations Center Steps Up Response

Madison, Wis. – In the wake of powerful storms and widespread flooding, the Wisconsin State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) has intensified its efforts to support affected communities. The SEOC was elevated to Level 2 status on April 14 as it tackles the challenges posed by the severe weather.

Reports received by the SEOC indicate significant flooding across various local roads, leading to evacuations of homes due to restricted access. Additionally, the severe weather has caused vehicle accidents and prompted sandbagging operations to mitigate flood damage.

To effectively manage the crisis, the SEOC is working closely with a range of state and nongovernmental organizations. These partners include:

  • Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs
  • Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
  • Wisconsin Department of Health Services
  • Wisconsin Department of Transportation
  • Salvation Army

In response to the unfolding situation, the SEOC has so far received five requests for emergency resources. These include:

  • Sandbags, sheeting, sandbagging equipment, and personnel
  • Hydraulic pumps for flood management
  • Activation of the 2-1-1 service in Vernon County

The SEOC advises residents impacted by the disaster to stay informed through weather alerts, adhere to local officials’ directions, and keep their emergency plans ready. Moreover, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation urges drivers to remain vigilant about varying travel conditions and to verify current road closures by visiting 511wi.gov.
