For Immediate Release
Madison, Wis. – In the aftermath of severe storms and flooding that have affected much of Wisconsin, the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) has intensified its response efforts. The SEOC has been elevated to a Level 2 status as it works to manage the crisis.
Reports of damage are being communicated by the SEOC through county and tribal emergency managers. Key areas of concern include damage to roads, with reports of culvert, shoulder, and bridge washouts. The watersheds of the Wisconsin, Rock, Wolf, and Menominee rivers are of particular focus.
Tragically, a fatality related to the severe weather was reported in southeastern Wisconsin on April 15.
The SEOC has processed 10 resource requests to aid in the response. These include:
- Deployment of a light tower for sandbagging operations
- Supply of sandbags and plastic sheeting
- Provision of a sandbagger machine to assist sandbagging efforts
Coordination of resources and support is ongoing with partners such as:
- Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs
- Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
- Wisconsin Department of Health Services
- Wisconsin Department of Transportation
- Salvation Army
Residents affected by the disaster are urged by the SEOC to stay alert to weather updates, adhere to local authorities’ guidance, and follow their personal emergency plans.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services reminds FoodShare members who lost food purchased with benefits due to the storms or power outages that they can apply for replacement benefits within 10 days of the loss. Details on replacement benefits can be found here.
