In an inspiring achievement for Texas, Samuell Farm has attained the prestigious Leave No Trace Gold Standard Site designation, marking a first for the state. This accolade, awarded by the global Leave No Trace organization, highlights the farm’s exemplary efforts in promoting sustainable outdoor recreation and community involvement, as well as its dedication to environmental conservation.
“Leave No Trace is thrilled to announce Samuell Farm as a Gold Standard Site,” stated Dana Watts, executive director of Leave No Trace. She praised the farm’s journey to this honor, which began with participation in the Leave No Trace Spotlight program in 2023. Watts emphasized the farm’s role as a leading force in the Leave No Trace movement, acknowledging the effort of its staff and volunteers in protecting natural spaces through effective education.
Samuell Farm now stands among the illustrious ranks of other Gold Standard Sites such as Philmont Scout Ranch, Shenandoah National Park, and Acadia National Park, becoming the 44th site to earn this distinction.
John D. Jenkins, Director of the Dallas Park and Recreation Department, expressed deep pride in the farm’s recognition: “Samuell Farm is one of the largest parks in our system and a true community treasure. We are especially proud that Samuell Farm has earned the distinction of being the first Gold Standard Site in Texas. By practicing and sharing the principles of Leave No Trace, we are safeguarding this special place for generations to come.”

Spanning 400 acres, Samuell Farm features trails, ponds, natural environments, and historic structures. It is also the site for Dallas’ acclaimed Outdoor Adventures, offering camping, outdoor recreation, and conservation education tailored for various age groups.
Achieving the status of a Leave No Trace Gold Standard Site involves meeting several criteria:
- Training staff extensively in Leave No Trace and outdoor ethics.
- Incorporating Leave No Trace skills, practices, and ethical standards into park management and programming.
- Maintaining a solid commitment to preserving the vitality of the managed areas.
Located at 100 E. Highway in Mesquite, Samuell Farm is managed by the Dallas Park and Recreation Department as part of its more than 400 parks.
