The City of Dallas proudly celebrated pride month with the 2026 Pride in Excellence Awards Reception on Thursday, June 4, 2026. This event served as a platform to honor influential LGBTQ+ figures who have made significant contributions to various sectors in the Dallas community.
The ceremony featured remarks from Council Members Chad West and Laura Cadena and highlighted the accomplishments of leaders in business, civic engagement, public service, arts & culture, and philanthropy. The awards were presented to the following distinguished individuals and groups:
Kirk Myers-Hill Pioneer in PRIDE Award – Libby Gonzales
Libby Gonzales was recognized for her pioneering efforts in advocating for LGBTQ+ rights. Known for her courage and leadership, Libby has used her platform to challenge discriminatory policies and promote understanding of transgender issues from a young age. Her notable achievements include organizing the first Trans Prom at the U.S. Capitol and using her voice to foster inclusivity.
Adam Medrano Excellence in Leadership Award – Hon. Omar Narvaez
Hon. Omar Narvaez received accolades for his dedication to public service and advocacy for LGBTQ+ equality. As a former Dallas City Council Member and current Justice of the Peace, Narvaez has been a trailblazer for LGBTQ+ representation in government, advancing inclusive policies and community engagement.
Outstanding Leadership in Business Award – Visit Dallas
Visit Dallas was honored for its commitment to promoting LGBTQ+ inclusion within the tourism industry. By fostering partnerships and supporting community-driven initiatives, Visit Dallas has enhanced the city’s reputation as a welcoming and inclusive destination.
Outstanding Leadership in Community Impact Award – Juan Contreras
Juan Contreras, a prominent advocate for LGBTQ+ and Latino communities, was acknowledged for his extensive community organizing efforts. As the founder of Texas Latino Pride and a leader at SOMOSLOUD, Contreras has worked tirelessly to empower marginalized groups through education and advocacy.
Outstanding Leadership in Public Service Award – Julie Johnson
Hon. Julie Johnson was celebrated for her commitment to justice and equality as a public servant. Serving in both the Texas House of Representatives and U.S. Congress, Johnson has been an unwavering advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and inclusive policies.
Outstanding Leadership in Arts and Culture Award – Jerome Larez
Jerome Larez was recognized for his impact on LGBTQ+ visibility through arts and culture. As a founder of Arttitude and Dune’s LGBT Homeless Solutions Foundation, Larez has utilized creativity to promote social change and support for marginalized communities.
Outstanding Leadership in Health and Human Services Award – Cece Cox
Cece Cox, CEO of the Resource Center, was honored for her transformative leadership in health and human services. Her work has significantly enhanced healthcare access and support for LGBTQ+ individuals and those affected by HIV/AIDS.
Outstanding Leadership in Philanthropy Award – Mark Niermann & Enrique Macgregor
Mark Niermann & Enrique Macgregor were recognized for their visionary philanthropic efforts. As co-founders of the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Dallas, they have played a pivotal role in promoting equity and inclusion through strategic giving and community partnerships.
