Flint Opens Cooling Centers Amid Forecast of Extreme Heat This Week

As Flint faces a surge in temperatures this week, city officials have taken proactive measures to ensure residents have a refuge from the sweltering heat. Cooling centers across the city have been set up to provide a cool, safe space for those in need.

The National Weather Service has predicted heat index values exceeding 100 degrees in the Flint area, prompting the opening of cooling centers from Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cooling Center Locations

  • Mays Senior & Community Center
    1002 W. Home Ave.
  • McKinley Community Center
    249 Peer Ave.
  • The Dome at Flint City Hall
    1101 S. Saginaw St.

In addition to utilizing these facilities, residents are advised to take precautions such as staying hydrated, avoiding intense outdoor exercise during peak heat hours, wearing light clothing, and checking on the well-being of older adults and those susceptible to heat-related health problems.

The city remains vigilant in monitoring the weather conditions and will issue updates if there are changes to the cooling center schedules or if more resources become available.
