This summer, a simple act of generosity could extend a lifeline to those in need. Two blood drives are being organized by the Barry-Eaton District Health Department (BEDHD) in collaboration with the American Red Cross on Friday, July 24. These events will take place simultaneously at the district’s office locations, providing a convenient opportunity for community members to donate blood.
Individuals wishing to donate can select the location that best suits their convenience:
While scheduling an appointment is recommended, walk-in donors will also be accommodated as space permits.
“Every blood donation has the power to save lives,” stated Rebekah Condon, Health Officer. “Patients undergoing surgery, receiving cancer treatment, recovering from serious injuries, experiencing childbirth complications, or facing other medical emergencies rely on donated blood every day. By hosting blood drives in both Hastings and Charlotte, we’re making it easier for our community to give this lifesaving gift.”
With no alternative for manufacturing, blood must be donated by kind-hearted volunteers. In the United States, someone requires blood every two seconds, emphasizing the urgent need for a consistent supply to aid hospitals in providing timely care to patients.
As an expression of gratitude, anyone who donates blood from July 13–31 will be awarded a Fandango Movie Ticket via email. This ticket, courtesy of the American Red Cross, can be used for up to $15 towards a movie ticket and associated fees. (*Terms apply. See RedCrossBlood.org/July for complete details.)
The American Red Cross is particularly urging donations from individuals with O negative, A negative, and B negative blood types, though all blood types are necessary and greatly appreciated. Whether you’re donating for the first time or are a seasoned contributor, your donation holds the potential to significantly impact a stranger’s life.
