In an assessment that highlights the value of higher education, the University of Virginia (UVA) has been awarded a prestigious five-star rating by Money Magazine in its latest “Best Colleges Ranking.” This recognition underscores UVA’s commitment to offering a quality education that balances excellence with accessibility for in-state students.
The University of Virginia’s five-star rating places it among an elite group of institutions recognized for providing outstanding educational value. Dubbed a “public Ivy,” UVA offers an education that rivals that of the Ivy League schools, but at a more affordable price for residents of Virginia. Additionally, the university’s campus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, provides a unique setting for students to learn and socialize, thanks to its design by University founder Thomas Jefferson.
Money Magazine’s evaluation process encompassed a review of over 700 four-year colleges, focusing on the value they offer students. The assessment involved 25 distinct data points, such as graduation rates, net cost of obtaining a degree, student debt, and alumni earnings. In a shift from previous years, the magazine now categorizes colleges into star ratings, rather than assigning a linear rank, as of 2023.
This year, UVA joins the ranks of 42 other institutions that have received a five-star rating, including prestigious names like Harvard University, Yale University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Since Money Magazine transitioned to the star-rating system, UVA has consistently earned between 4.5 and 5 stars, achieving the top rating in both 2023 and the current year.
