Flint Fire Department Earns Prestigious CAAS Gold Standard Accreditation

Flint Fire Department Reaches New Heights with Prestigious Accreditation

In a groundbreaking development for the City of Flint, the Flint Fire Department has been awarded the “Gold Standard” accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS). This highest level of accreditation highlights Flint’s dedication to providing top-tier emergency medical services.

With only about 25 to 30 fire departments nationwide holding active CAAS accreditation, Flint joins an elite group distinguished for excellence in emergency services.

A press conference featuring Mayor Sheldon Neeley, Fire Chief Theron Wiggins, and Jim Cooper from L&C EMS Consulting, LLC was held to elaborate on the accreditation’s significance. They discussed the extensive efforts required to attain this status and its implications for Flint’s emergency medical services.

The CAAS accreditation is awarded to ambulance services that meet high standards in patient care, operational performance, safety, and accountability. This recognition underscores a commitment to excellence, ensuring that Flint’s emergency services consistently deliver quality care.

This milestone is particularly poignant given Flint’s restoration of its municipal ambulance service in 2024, after a gap of over 20 years. The accreditation not only marks a significant achievement but also reinforces the city’s dedication to enhancing emergency response capabilities. For Flint residents, this means access to reliable and professional emergency medical services during critical times.
