FLINT, Mich. – February heralds Black History Month, a time to honor and celebrate African American contributions across various fields. In Flint and Genesee County, a multitude of events cater to a wide range of interests and age groups. Here’s a roundup of events happening throughout February. Feb. 1 – April 26 | African American Art from the Key Collection
The Flint Institute of Arts Museum + Art School will host an exhibition featuring over 80 pieces from Eric Key’s collection, a seasoned arts administrator and curator. With over 35 years in the field, Key aims to foster conversations about race, identity, and the African American experience through this diverse media collection.
Feb. 5 – Feb. 8 | Tapology’s 24th Annual Tap Dance Festival in Honor of Black History Month
Held in Flint, Tapology’s 24th annual festival, “Matters of the He(A)rt: Rhythm, Reverence, and Revelation,” will take place from February 5–8 across multiple venues, culminating in a concert at FIM Whiting Auditorium. This four-day event celebrates tap as a Black art form and includes master classes, performances, and community engagement activities.
Feb. 6 – Feb. 28 | The MoTown Story
The New McCree Theatre presents a tribute to the storied history of Motown Records, tracing its journey from Detroit to Los Angeles. The musical will feature iconic acts like the Marvelettes and the Supremes and will run weekly on Fridays and Saturdays.
Feb. 7, 10:00 a.m. | 25th Annual Black History Month Brunch
The Genesee District Library hosts this ticketed event, recognizing community members with the Award of Excellence. The brunch will feature a keynote by Daryl Davis, a musician and unifier, and honor local figures like Kenyetta Dotson.
Feb. 10, 5:30 p.m. | The Greater Flint African American Sports Hall of Fame Inductee Announcement
Gloria Coles Public Library will host the announcement of the 2026 inductees to the Greater Flint African American Sports Hall of Fame. The press conference will start at 5:30 p.m.
Feb. 13, 8:00 p.m. | Black Violin
Black Violin, known for blending classical strings with modern beats, returns to Flint’s FIM Capitol Theatre. The duo, Kev Marcus and Wil Baptiste, continue to impress after winning Showtime at the Apollo and headlining major venues.
Feb. 20, 7:00 p.m. | Flint School of Performing Arts Celebrates Black History
The Flint School of Performing Arts will host a family-friendly concert featuring student performances across music, theatre, and dance. The event will showcase pieces that celebrate the rich history of Black artists and thinkers.
