NAU Hosts Groundbreaking Public Service Academy to Empower Arizona Leaders

A diverse group of public service professionals and leaders from across Arizona have gathered for a unique opportunity to enhance their leadership skills. Northern Arizona University (NAU) has launched the inaugural High Country Public Service Academy (HCPSA), a pioneering professional development event aimed at fostering innovation and collaboration within the public sector.

With participation from over 150 managers and executive leaders, the academy is the first of its kind, providing an enriching experience through the NAU Master of Public Administration program. This initiative, in collaboration with NAU Continuing Education and the School of Communication, marked a significant milestone in professional growth and networking.

The event was spearheaded by Sara Rinfret, a professor in the Department of Politics and International Affairs, who played a pivotal role in bringing together key figures from various sectors. Notable attendees included Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, Arizona Board of Regent Steve Peru, Flagstaff Mayor Becky Daggett, and several city managers such as Joanne Keene from Flagstaff, Scott Butler from Mesa, and Ginger Spencer from Phoenix. The academy also saw participation from Sedona City Manager Anette Spickard.

The diverse lineup of speakers featured representatives from government, higher education, and the nonprofit sector, offering a comprehensive perspective on public service. The HCPSA provided a platform for participants to engage with experts, share insights, and explore strategies to address contemporary challenges faced by public service professionals.
