NAU Launches Innovative Public Service Academy for Arizona Leaders
In a pioneering move to bolster leadership and foster innovation across Arizona’s public sector, Northern Arizona University (NAU) hosted more than 150 public service professionals at the first High Country Public Service Academy (HCPSA). This unique professional development initiative aims to enhance collaboration among government, education, and nonprofit leaders.
The event, held by NAU’s Master of Public Administration program in collaboration with NAU Continuing Education and the School of Communication, featured a lineup of prominent Arizona figures. Among the distinguished guests were Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, Arizona Board of Regent Steve Peru, and Flagstaff Mayor Becky Daggett. Other notable participants included Flagstaff City Manager Joanne Keene, Mesa City Manager Scott Butler, Phoenix Assistant City Manager Ginger Spencer, and Sedona City Manager Anette Spickard. These leaders, along with others from various sectors, gathered to share insights and strategies for effective public service leadership.

The academy was spearheaded by Sara Rinfret, a professor in the Department of Politics and International Affairs, who played a crucial role in bringing together these leaders for a shared learning experience.
