On the Road to Victory

Arizona’s impressive season includes a 16-2 record in Big 12 play, with significant wins over formidable opponents such as Florida, UCLA, and the University of Connecticut. Their steady performance earned them the top spot in the Associated Press Top 25 poll for ten consecutive weeks starting December 8.

Despite suffering two losses against Kansas and Texas Tech in February, the Wildcats bounced back, finishing the regular season on a six-game winning streak and securing the Big 12 regular season title. Key players were recognized for their contributions, with senior point guard Jaden Bradley named Big 12 Player of the Year, and head coach Tommy Lloyd receiving Big 12 Coach of the Year honors.

In the Big 12 tournament, Arizona dominated with an 81-59 victory over Central Florida and a thrilling 82-80 win against Iowa State, highlighted by Bradley’s buzzer-beater. The Wildcats claimed the championship after a hard-fought 79-74 win over Houston.

Statistical Dominance

The Wildcats boast exceptional statistics, including a plus-17.3 point differential, ranking sixth nationally. According to KenPom, they hold the No. 2 spot in net rating, with top-five standings in offensive and defensive ratings. Arizona ranks fourth in the nation in rebounds per game, averaging 42.5, and they maintain a strong defensive presence by holding opponents to 39.2% shooting, ranking eighth.

Freshman Brayden Burries leads with 15.9 points per game, but the scoring is well-distributed among seven players averaging nine points or more.

Historic Milestones

This year’s Selection Sunday marked Arizona’s eighth No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and its 40th overall appearance, placing them seventh in NCAA history. The Wildcats have previously started their tournament journey in San Diego, with memorable wins in Lloyd’s debut season in 2022 and during the 2013-14 season.
