BLM Seeks Public Input on Silver King Wild Horse Management Plan

BLM Seeks Public Input on Wild Horse Management in Silver King Area

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is inviting public input on the proposed management strategies for the wild horse population in the Silver King Herd Management Area (HMA), located in southeast Nevada. The Silver King HMA is under the jurisdiction of the Caliente Field Office.

The current wild horse population in the Silver King area significantly exceeds the established appropriate management level, which is set between 60 and 128 animals. As of March 2026, there are approximately 595 wild horses in this region. Overpopulation of the herd can lead to habitat degradation, resulting in starvation and thirst among the animals.

Further details can be found on the BLM National NEPA Register. Comments regarding the proposal can be sent via email to [email protected]. The deadline for submitting comments is May 29, 2026.

For additional inquiries, interested parties can contact the BLM Caliente Field Office at 775-251-5250.
