Wisconsin Grapples with Severe Winter Storm as SEOC Steps Up Response
As a significant winter storm sweeps across Wisconsin, the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) has taken proactive measures to mitigate the impact, raising its operations to Level 3 as of March 15. This escalation is in response to widespread blizzard and winter storm alerts affecting much of the state.
Reports have been pouring in from county and tribal emergency managers detailing the severity of the situation, with highways rendered impassable, vehicle accidents occurring, and power outages being reported. The SEOC is actively engaged with multiple state agencies, including the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs, Department of Transportation, Department of Natural Resources, and Department of Health Services, to coordinate a comprehensive response.
To support those affected, the SEOC has fielded two critical resource requests: the deployment of vehicles and personnel to assist motorists stranded by the storm, and the distribution of blankets to those in need. Additionally, the American Red Cross is prepared with shelters in La Crosse, Osseo, and Sister Bay should conditions necessitate their use.
The public is strongly advised by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to remain home and only travel in emergencies, particularly in northern Wisconsin, where road conditions are perilous. For real-time updates on travel conditions, residents can turn to official sources such as 511wi.gov, WisDOT social media channels, and their official news releases.
As the storm continues, the SEOC urges all Wisconsin residents to stay informed through weather alerts, heed the advice of local authorities, and adhere to personal emergency plans to ensure safety.
