49ers’ Keion White Undergoes Surgery After Being Shot in Ankle

An unexpected incident has unfolded in San Francisco, where the city’s professional football community was shaken by news of a shooting involving one of its athletes. Early Monday morning, Keion White, a defensive lineman for the San Francisco 49ers, found himself in the hospital following a gunshot wound to his ankle.

The unfortunate event took place just hours after the conclusion of the Super Bowl hosted at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. The 49ers organization released a statement confirming the situation: “Keion White was a victim of a shooting and sustained a bullet wound to his ankle this morning in San Francisco. He is currently undergoing surgery at a local hospital. We will provide further updates when appropriate.”

According to the San Francisco police department, officers were called to the scene shortly after 4 a.m., where they discovered White with a gunshot injury. Emergency medical personnel were summoned, and White was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. His injuries are considered non-life-threatening. As of now, no arrests have been made.

The police department’s initial investigation suggests that the incident stemmed from a verbal dispute between two groups inside a business establishment. The altercation escalated, leading to shots being fired by an unidentified suspect. Authorities are still gathering information and have stated that details may change as the investigation progresses.

White, who was traded to the 49ers from the New England Patriots midseason, had recently completed his third year in the NFL. In a twist of fate, his former team, the Patriots, faced defeat against the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl the night before the incident.

This marks the second shooting incident involving a 49ers player in San Francisco within the last 18 months. Previously, receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery on August 31, 2024. The alleged assailant in that case, a teenager, is currently awaiting trial in juvenile court.
