University of Virginia Celebrates 20 Fulbright Scholars for 2025-26

Once again, the University of Virginia (UVA) has distinguished itself as a leading institution in the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. In the 2025-26 cycle, 20 of its students and recent graduates have earned the prestigious scholarships to advance their educational pursuits abroad, either through teaching, studying, or researching.

Andrus Ashoo, who heads the Office of Citizen Scholar Development at UVA, remarked, “With the number of foreign languages we teach, our commitment to mutual understanding through cross-cultural engagement and the willingness of our students and alumni to take risks and explore, it is no surprise that the University of Virginia has become a regular member of this list over the last decade.” He emphasized the role of these recipients as cultural ambassadors during their time overseas.

The Fulbright Program, a hallmark of international academic exchange since its inception in 1946, is spearheaded by the U.S. government. It brings together participants from the United States and 160 other countries, facilitating opportunities for teaching, studying, and researching globally. Alumni of the program often emerge as influential figures across various sectors, including government, business, and the arts.

Operated by the U.S. Department of State, the Fulbright Program receives substantial backing from numerous governments, partner organizations, corporations, and foundations worldwide, which provide both direct and indirect support.
