The City of Flint is ushering in a new era for community engagement with the revitalization of the Haskell Community Center, a historic venue serving its residents for over a century. This revitalization includes the introduction of Glen Kelly Field, set to host football, soccer, and lacrosse, and aims to continue the center’s role as a focal point for youth development.
Glen Kelly Field is named in honor of Glenn Kelly, a revered educator and community advocate who coached NFL Super Bowl champions Mark Ingram Sr. and Andre Rison. His enduring influence continues to inspire investment in Flint’s youth and families.
In anticipation of the grand opening and dedication event set for Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., a press conference was held on Tuesday, September 2, at the Haskell Community Center, located at 2201 Forest Hill Avenue, Flint, MI.
The restored center will serve as a cornerstone for the west side, promoting neighborhood involvement, recreational activities, and youth programs.
Mayor Sheldon Neeley emphasized the significance of these projects, stating, “These projects represent not just bricks and mortar, but renewed hope, opportunity, and connection for our neighborhoods.” He expressed pride in restoring the space for the community and honoring Glen Kelly’s enduring influence.
The City of Flint extends an invitation to residents, families, and community partners to partake in the celebration on September 20, which will offer family-oriented activities, food, and opportunities to engage with local organizations.
