Villanova Hosts 38th Annual SOPA Fall Festival, Nov 13-15, 2026

VILLANOVA, Pa. (October 26, 2026)—The vibrant spirit of sportsmanship and inclusivity will take center stage at Villanova University as it prepares to host the 38th Special Olympics Pennsylvania’s (SOPA) Fall Festival from November 13-15. Touted as the largest student-led Special Olympics event globally, this festival continues to be a cornerstone of community engagement.

Drawing over 1,100 athletes, this grand event will be supported by 400 coaches, 1,500 Inclusion Crew members from Villanova, 270 Local Program Hosts, and an impressive 2,500 volunteers from across Pennsylvania. The meticulous planning and execution of the festival are overseen by more than 100 dedicated student members of Villanova’s Special Olympics Committee, in partnership with SOPA.

This year’s theme, “Sail the Coastal Sea, Chart Your Course to Victory,” encourages participants to embark on their own journeys of adventure and determination. Throughout the campus, thematic decorations will symbolize the lasting impact of the friendships and memories forged during the festival, much like the waves that shape a shoreline.

According to Steve Koch, associate director for leadership programs in the Office of Student Involvement, “Fall Festival is about so much more than a weekend of competition. It’s about connection, inclusion, service and the joy that comes from uplifting one another.” He emphasized the spirit of unity and achievement that permeates the event every year.

Competitions will span bocce, flag football, long-distance running/walking, powerlifting, soccer, and volleyball from Friday through Sunday, utilizing both Villanova and Cabrini campuses. The festival will also feature a variety of sport-adjacent activities, including a Unified Sports Experience Home Run Derby, Yard Games, Olympic Town, and various health-promoting initiatives under the Healthy Athletes program. A highlight of the festival, the Victory Jamboree, will take place at the Dixon Center on Cabrini Campus at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Concluding the festival, dual closing ceremonies are scheduled for Sunday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., featuring food and final remarks to celebrate the weekend’s achievements.

Volunteers will play crucial roles throughout the event, serving as officials, athlete escorts, award presenters, and in various administrative capacities. The festival warmly welcomes additional volunteers and encourages spectators to cheer on the athletes at the competition venues.
