Dallas Water Utilities Completes Pipeline Grouting Ahead of Schedule
Residents and visitors of Dallas will soon have full access to a beloved trail as the Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) wraps up a critical infrastructure project. The section of the White Rock Lake Trail, which has been closed due to construction, is set to reopen by Friday, August 7, 2026. This development follows the completion of grouting work on an abandoned 36-inch diameter pipeline located near Garland Road and E. Lawther Drive.
Earlier this year, concerns arose when a sinkhole was discovered adjacent to the trail, a consequence of the deteriorating wastewater pipeline. The immediate response involved backfilling the sinkhole, but the recent grouting serves as a preventative measure against future occurrences.
The construction project, which kicked off during the week of June 15, 2026, was a cooperative effort involving DWU alongside the Park and Recreation and Transportation and Public Works departments. The contractor responsible for the work managed to complete the grouting significantly ahead of the initial timeline, with expectations originally set for September 2026.
