Dallas Animal Services: Adopt or Foster Pets for the Holidays

Community Encouraged to Aid Dallas Pets During Holiday Season

As the festive season approaches, Dallas Animal Services (DAS) is calling on local residents to support their initiative to find homes for pets during one of the busiest times of the year. In an effort to bring pets “Home for the Holidays,” DAS has set a target of 1,400 positive outcomes for December, having already achieved 588. This follows a successful October and November, with 1,377 and 1,378 positive outcomes, respectively, through adoptions and foster placements.

Victoria Chittam Bennett, Assistant Director, commented, “We are grateful for the support our community continues to show. Every adoption opens a kennel for another pet in need, and the holidays are an especially meaningful time to welcome a new companion.”

In addition to adoptions, those choosing to welcome a pet into their home this season can participate in the Friends of Dallas Animal Services (FODAS) 12 Days of Holiday Giveaways. This initiative is made possible through donations from the community. More details can be found at friendsofdas.org and updates will be shared on social media.

For those not ready to commit to adoption, DAS offers an opportunity to participate in the Silent Night Holiday Staycations. This short-term foster program allows dogs to enjoy a peaceful break from the shelter environment. Pickups are planned for December 20-21, with returns on December 27-28 or January 3-4. It requires potential fosterers to spend 1-3 hours at the shelter to find a suitable pet match, and interaction with other animals should be minimized. Queries can be directed to [email protected].

Amanda Earl, Assistant Director, highlighted the benefits: “Holiday Staycations allow our dogs to decompress and show their personalities in a home environment. The insight we receive from these foster stays is invaluable in helping pets find permanent homes.”

DAS is urging the community to contribute through adoption, fostering, volunteering, or sharing adoptable pets to help achieve December’s goals. Director Paul Ramon stated, “Together, we can bring home the holidays for the pets relying on us.”
