Our LGBTQ+ Resources
For those seeking additional resources, the library offers an LGBTQ+ Explore page, which features links to information on health, activism, legal support, and the efforts of local LGBTQ+ organizations. Additionally, podcasts from the Author Events series and blog posts on topics like workplace coming out and the history of drag storytimes are available.
For those interested in expanding their reading lists, the Free Library provides book and materials lists, including picture books, fiction and nonfiction, DVDs, and award nominees. The Rainbow Connection, a group of LGBTQ+ Free Library staff, also offers curated book lists.
Pride Month is an excellent opportunity to learn more about Barbara Gittings and the Gittings Collection, located at the Independence Library. This collection, the largest LGBTQ+ public library collection east of San Francisco, honors the legacy of Barbara Gittings, who passed away in 2007.
Pride Month serves as a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and an affirmation of living authentically. The library encourages everyone to show their support for the LGBTQ+ community during Pride Month and throughout the year.
