Insurance Fraud Arrest in North Carolina Highlights Ongoing Challenges
In a significant development in the fight against insurance fraud, James Daryl Williams, aged 34, has been apprehended in North Carolina. Williams, residing at 19805 N.C. 903, Robersonville, faces multiple felony charges including insurance fraud, forgery, uttering, and attempting to obtain property by false pretense.
The Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, led by special agents, accuses Williams of submitting a fraudulent insurance claim to Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Co. The arrest warrants detail that Williams provided fabricated and forged receipts for items he alleged were stolen. Although the claimed items were valued at a substantial $85,949.91, the payout would have been limited to $4,907.33 due to policy constraints.
Williams’s arrest occurred on February 27, and he was subsequently released on a $2,000 unsecured bond.
Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey urges residents of North Carolina to remain vigilant in reporting suspicious activities, stressing that insurance fraud impacts everyone. “Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime,” Commissioner Causey emphasized. “It hits all of us in the pocket through higher premiums.”
Citizens are encouraged to report suspected insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes. Reports can be made anonymously by contacting the N.C.
