Lombardo Criticizes Nevada’s Easy Voting, Endorses Election Deniers

In a recent development, Nevada’s voting system has come under scrutiny following comments by Governor Joe Lombardo. During a private fundraiser, Lombardo remarked, “there’s no place easier to vote in the nation than Nevada. All right? Unfortunately.” This statement has sparked debates over Nevada’s election integrity despite the absence of evidence supporting claims of election insecurity.

Governor Lombardo, who is preparing for a second-term challenge from Democrat Attorney General Aaron Ford, has been active in political campaigns. Notably, he partnered with well-known election denier Joey Gilbert during a recent campaign event. Lombardo’s stance on election integrity has been questioned, especially after his veto of bills in 2023 and 2025 that aimed to penalize false electors attempting to manipulate Nevada’s electoral votes. Moreover, Lombardo has not criticized former President Trump for pardoning January 6th rioters, many of whom have since reoffended.

Lombardo’s political support extends to figures like Trump and Michael McDonald, Nevada Republican Party Chairman, who was implicated as one of six fake electors in 2020. Additionally, Lombardo has endorsed candidates such as Carrie Buck, who claimed that “1,500 dead people voted in 2020,” Ken Gray, who alleged election theft at a campaign rally, and Jill Dickman, who spoke of “voter fraud” in a social media post.

Election Integrity and Voter Turnout

Lombardo’s comments on Nevada’s voting ease were captured in an audio recording obtained during an October fundraiser. Despite urging supporters to combat voter apathy, Lombardo’s remarks on election integrity raised eyebrows. “If you are close to individuals and you ask ’em ‘have you voted and they say ‘no,’ convince them. There’s no place easier to vote in the nation than Nevada. Unfortunately,” Lombardo stated, prompting laughter from the audience. He further explained voting options, including early voting, in-person voting, and mail ballots, criticizing a 2024 Nevada Supreme Court decision that allows unpostmarked ballots to be counted days after the election.

Lombardo’s campaign has yet to clarify how he balances encouraging voter turnout with questioning election integrity. His recent actions, such as campaigning alongside election deniers like Joey Gilbert and vetoing legislation against fake electors, have fueled discussions around his stance.

Despite these controversies, experts affirm that voter fraud is nearly nonexistent in the United States. The ongoing debates around election integrity in Nevada continue to unfold as the political landscape evolves.
