Help Shape the Future of Maricopa County Parks Through Virtual Meetings

Maricopa County Invites Public to Influence Future of Regional Parks

In an effort to shape the long-term vision and development of three significant regional parks, the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department is reaching out to residents for input. Through virtual public meetings and online platforms, the community can contribute to the master planning of Estrella Mountain, Buckeye Hills, and San Tan Mountain Regional Parks.

The Department is in the process of creating comprehensive master plans for its nine regional parks, tackling three parks per phase. These plans will guide the enhancement of recreational facilities, infrastructure, and natural resource preservation over the next decade or more.

“Our regional parks are among Maricopa County’s greatest treasures, and planning for their future requires thoughtful collaboration with local communities,” stated Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chair Kate Brophy McGee, District 3. “Inviting residents to get involved ensures future improvements reflect community priorities while protecting the natural beauty and recreational opportunities that make our parks so special.”

Vice Chair Debbie Lesko, District 4, emphasized the importance of maintaining a balance between expanding recreational facilities and conserving Arizona’s unique natural landscapes. “These master plans will help us make informed decisions that protect our parks, enhance visitor experiences, and ensure future generations can continue to enjoy these incredible outdoor spaces,” she said.

Jennifer Waller, Director of Maricopa County Parks and Recreation, underscored the necessity of community feedback in the planning process. “Community input is essential to developing park master plans that reflect the needs and priorities of the people who use and enjoy these spaces,” she noted.

The planning initiative will assess current park conditions, available amenities, and natural resources, pinpointing opportunities for future improvements. Input from the public will be instrumental in determining capital improvement priorities, funding allocations, and long-term recommendations for each park.
