BLM Generates $34M from Energy and Timber Sales in Q2 2025

BLM’s Second Quarter Sales Reflect Strong Focus on Energy and Timber

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) reported a substantial $34 million in total receipts from its energy and timber sales during the second quarter of 2025. These sales are a continuation of policies aimed at enhancing domestic energy and timber industries, echoing initiatives from the Trump administration. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to boost job creation and streamline processes for permits and leases.

“This quarter’s sales demonstrate the BLM’s unwavering commitment to fostering American energy dominance and reducing reliance on foreign resources,” stated Acting BLM Director Bill Groffy. “By building on the commonsense, pro-growth policies of the Trump administration, we’re ensuring public lands are supporting national security, economic strength, and the livelihood of the American people.”

Energy Sector Leases

In the second quarter, the BLM leased 67 parcels covering 59,217 acres, generating $13.5 million from oil and gas lease sales. The sales were spread across Montana/North Dakota, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming. Additionally, a geothermal lease sale in Utah leased 14 parcels over 50,691 acres for $5.6 million.

The revenue from these leases, including bonus bids and rentals, will be shared between the federal government and the states where the parcels are located. These sales are crucial for supporting domestic energy production, consistent with Executive Order 14154, “Unleashing American Energy,” enhancing U.S. energy independence, and contributing to the nation’s economic and military security.

Timber Sales

BLM’s timber sales from April to June 2025 in Idaho and Oregon brought in $14.5 million in revenue. These sales are aligned with Executive Order 14225, “Immediate Expansion of American Timber Production,” ensuring a robust domestic lumber supply and minimizing dependency on imported building materials.

With over 20% of BLM-managed lands consisting of forest and woodland ecosystems, the BLM is committed to maintaining these areas for timber production and environmental health. The timber sales also play a role in reducing wildfire risks and enhancing forest health, water quality, and wildlife habitats.
